Childrens & YA eBook Sales Up 275%

According to the Association of American Publishers (AAP) net sales revenue report for February, eBooks sales in the children’s and young adult categories saw massive growth in February.

The categories saw a nearly 178 percent increase in eBook sales reaching $22.4 million compared to the $8 million for the same period last year. For the year, children’s and YA eBook sales jumped by 275.4 percent to $45 million, up from $12 million in February 2011.

Adult eBook sales were up almost 10% for the month to $92.5 million, which was up from $84.2 million in February 2011. This number didn’t increase as rapidly as it has in the past. The AAP explains why: “Investigating this, it turns out that the current February 2011 figure, listed here, included an unusual one-off retail revenue transaction reported in to us (in preparing each month’s report, we update the previous year’s comparative data as well).  Simply put, the new February 2011 figure was abnormally high and, therefore, affected comparisons with the 2012 figures.”
