The New York Post has more: “Instagram users outraged over new rules made good on their threat to dump the popular photo-sharing app … Instagram, which peaked at 16.4 million active daily users the week it rolled out its policy change, had fallen to 12.4 million as of yesterday, according to the data. Last week, Instagram changed its terms of service to pave the way for advertising.”

There’s a large gap between calling (~60%) and texting (~70%). This change might be attributed in this years’ popular rise in mobile apps for social sites such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Subway riders can get up-to-the-minute information about what time their train will be in their station. Here is more from iTunes: “Knowing exactly when your train will arrive will reduce the time you spend waiting on the subway platform, and let you know of any service delays or reroutes before you pay your fare.”

According to Distimo, the most popular apps downloaded on Christmas Day on iOS devices (excluding Apple apps) were YouTube, Google Maps, Elf Yourself, Where’s My Holiday, and Skype.

Beyond just Apple’s App Store, yesterday we reported that app downloads across devices were up 112 percent on Christmas Day compared to other days in December. (Via CNET).

The new app lets fans track news, stats, schedules, and check out photos and videos. Mobile development agency Lucid Appeal created the app, which fans can use to buy tickets to games via an integration with Ticketmaster.

“Launching this mobile app is a part of our long term strategy to engage Lakers fans across digital platforms and deliver content to fans in all the ways they want to consume it,” explained Nick Kioski, director, new media & technology for the Lakers, in a statement. ”We’re excited for this launch, but even more so for the long-term road map we have for the mobile app and the dynamic features coming in future versions.”

The decrease in November comes after October saw a record  spike, driven by the release of the iPhone 5 in late September. According to Fiksu’s App Store competitive index which tracks the aggregate volume of downloads per day from the top 200 ranked free iPhone apps in the U.S., the cost of keeping an app user loyal went up in November.

Check it out: “The Cost per Loyal User Index measures the cost of acquiring a loyal user for brands who proactively market their apps. For the purposes of the Index, loyal users are defined as people who open an app three times or more. In November, the cost to acquire a loyal app user shot up to by 30 percent, or 32 cents, to $1.38, compared to October’s $1.06.”
