Drinking Mirror App Shows Off Effects of Drinking Over the Years

In a move to address problem drinking in young women in Scotland, the Scottish government has created an app that taps into their vanity and predicts the effect of heavy drinking on their looks over ten years.

The app is part of the Scottish Health Secretary Alex Neil‘s campaign to encourage women to ‘Drop a Glass Size’ in 2013, encouraging women to drink less this year. The app lets users upload a photo of themselves to a “drinking mirror” and see the deleterious effects of drinking on their face over time. The goal of the app is to demonstrate how drinking less can help improve a user’s looks over a decade, and in turn encourage less binge drinking. The app is available for iOS and Android devices.

Earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control in the U.S. reported that 1 in 8 adult women and 1 in 5 high school girls report binge drinking. (Via CNN).
