eReader Owners Are Now Getting Authors To Sign The Gadget, Not The Book

Did you know there’s a growing trend for ebook lovers? We’re not asking for authors to sign a book anymore; instead we want them to sign our ereaders.

Tampa Bay Online has a story on  Andrew Bennett, a Kindle owner who has been collecting signatures on his K2. He now has signatures from Gary Vaynerchuk, Jim Kukral, and Steve Garfield.  The signatures are on the back of his K2, which might be a problem. The K2′s back is polished metal, so I don’t think it will take much to wipe it clean.

I did some digging, and I found the picture at left on Flickr. Now that is an impressive amount of scribbling.

While we’re on the topic, do you have a signed e-reader? We’d love to see it.

It’s good to know that I’m not alone in this; I’ve been collecting signatures for a while now. Actually, it would be more accurate to say I’ve been planning to collect signatures; I only have a few so far. My best one yet is by Cory Doctorow:

Unlike Andrew Bennett, I plan to collect signatures on the cover, not the device. The cover should last longer, and after the ereader died I still display the cover on my bookshelf.
