Exploratorium’s New iPad App Explores How Sound Works

The San Francisco Exploratorium has launched a new iPad app that is designed for users to explore how sound works.

The free app, called Sound Uncovered, is essentially an interactive book that lets you experiment with audio recordings to experience auditory illusions and acoustic phenomena. The reader is invited to make recordings, test their hearing, and experience how the eyes can hear and how the ears can see.

Check it out: “How do you make a saxophone growl? Are there secret messages in music played backward? Can you talk and listen at the same time? Why does the sound of gum chewing drive some people mad? Listen up and find answers to these questions and more as you take an auditory trip to the place where sound gets truly interesting: the space between your ears.”

This is the second app from the San Francisco museum. The  Exploratorium has another app called Color Uncovered that explores how color works.
