Siri Tells John Malkovich a Better Joke

Apple has been advertising the iPhone 4S with cameos by famous people. John Malkovich is the latest celebrity to star in one of Apple’s commercials, but it was pretty lame. All of the commercials have been rather boring, but luckily jokesters have taken the videos and improved them.

Make Animations With FlipBook HD iPad App

Want to use your iPad to draw animations? Check on the new FlipBook HD app for iPad from Anon Arts. The latest app from the Pixar technical director Josh Anon, is based on the original iPhone app (which has been downloaded more than 2 million times), but has been designed with the iPad in mind.

The $4.99 app lets users draw frames and then render theses drawing together into an animation.
Here is more about the app from iTunes: “When you’re ready to move beyond frame-to-frame drawing in the Filmstrip, the Timeline lets you set keyframes, adjust splines, and focus on your movie’s timing, taking your motion to the next level.”

The animations can be shared via email and social networks. We’ve embedded a demo of the app above so that you can check it out.

Apple Launches Free App of The Week

It looks like Apple has finally woken up to the value of a sale. They’re launching a new weekly promotion in iTunes today which will feature a paid app being given away for free. The first app is Cut the Rope: Experiments. There’s both an iPad and iPhone version, and it’s the first paid app to be discounted to free by Apple.

Apple is also rolling out out new “editors’ choice” promotions which highlight apps that are currently in popular or trendy. Right now that includes Facebook Camera, Air Mail, and Sketchbook Ink (via)

Apple Designer Jonathan Ive: “We try to develop products that seem somehow inevitable.”

In an interview with the Telegraph, long time Apple designer Jonathan Ive discusses his approach to design. The British designer, who has worked for the Cupertino company since 1992, is responsible for leading the design for such groundbreaking products as the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad.

Modestly, Ive explains that his choices are pragmatic. He told the Telegraph: “We try to develop products that seem somehow inevitable. That leave you with the sense that that’s the only possible solution that makes sense. Our products are tools and we don’t want design to get in the way. We’re trying to bring simplicity and clarity, we’re trying to order the products.”

First Look at a Video Shot by Google Glasses

Google has been teasing us lately with driblets of information on Glasses, their new heads up display. And this morning someone finally posted a video which had been shot with the device.

The clip is 15 seconds long. It’s shot in 720p and is a first-person view from someone bouncing around on a trampoline. The video quality is quite good considering the size of the camera and all the electronics shoved inside the Glasses.

Google has also shared a number of photos over on the Google Glasses fan page on Google Plus. Some are pretty decent.

54 Developers Collaborate on Insanely Huge Indie Game Sale

If you’ve got some spare change rubbing together in your pocket then you might want to pull it out. A huge sale was launched today which spans over 200 games on many different platforms, including iOS, OSX, Android, and Windows.

So, why the sale? The developers don’t really give a reason other than they’re putting their apps on sale because they could do it. Sounds good to me. continued…

YouMail: An App For When You Don’t Want To Pick Up The Phone

Do you screen your phone calls? If you are looking for a newer and more exciting way to do so, check out the YouMail app.

The app gives you details about the caller like their photo, name and location, even if they are not in your address book. You can also use it to create personalized outgoing voicemail messages that incorporate the caller’s name into the greeting. One of the best features is the “caller ditching” tool that lets users forward unwanted callers directly to voicemail where they are told that the number is disconnected. You can also tweet out voicemails using the app.

The app is supported by various carriers including: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint). It does require you to forward all unanswered calls to YouMail. It’s available for free for Android and iOS devices.

The popular photo sharing app got an update today which adds a feature which I would have wanted long ago. You can now use the app to share links to your photos, thus removing the need for the recipient to have the app.

This two-year-old app first captured everyone’s attention by offering a unique method for sharing. As you can probably guess from the name, you bump two smartphones together. Both have to have the app running, of course, but this is still a unique physical way to carry out a common act.

Bump has been used to transfer over 630 million pictures in the past couple years, and Bump expects that to only grow thanks to the new update. “One of the comments we always hear is ‘I wish my computer worked just as well. I wish there was Bump on my computer’ so we decided to build that,” Dave Lieb, co-founder and CEO of Bump told Mashable.

The process for transferring photos to your computer is supposed to be simple, but the Bump website doesn’t quite seem to be working right. It took me several refreshes before it loaded properly. But when it works you’ll have a link that can be emailed, tweeted, or shared with anyone who has an internet connection.

Not Even Siri Can Stand Chris Brown

Apple released a couple new videos yesterday featuring John Malkovich and Siri. As much as I like the fellow, his commercial isn’t nearly as entertaining as the many parodies that have been made.

Take, for example, the following video, which was created by Jest. It makes fun of Chris Brown. Okay, it’s more insulting than funny, but he makes an excellent punching bag. The conversation in the video is NSFW so I am putting it after the break. continued…
