Perka, an app that lets local merchants create loyalty programs for their customers replacing punch cards, has been acquired by payment platform First Data, in a deal whose terms were not disclosed.
Perka will continue to operate independently, and the current management and product development teams will stay in place. Your points at your favorite cafe will remain in place. First Data will invest in the platform to help Perka grow to a larger scale. The deal also gives Perka access to First Data’s 6+ million merchant customers in 30 countries around the world.
“Perka is a strong addition to the offerings we have for our merchants today and we welcome them to the First Data product family,” stated Guy Chiarello, president, First Data. “Loyalty is a critical component of the seamless shopping experience that consumers are demanding as they engage with mobile phones more than ever. With Perka’s open and scalable platform, merchants of any size now have agility to customize a mobile loyalty marketing program that works for their business needs.”
This is First Data’s second acquisition in the past couple of months in the mobile industry. The company recently acquired POS technology startup Clover.
