Five Things We’d Like To See On Pottermore

Yesterday, J.K. Rowling announced that she will be selling Harry Potter DRM-free eBooks from her new website Pottermore.com. The site, which launches in October, will also be the home of an interactive experience of Harry Potter designed in conjunction with digital agency TH_NK. It will include games, maps, character bios and 18,000 additional words from Rowling.

Rowling didn’t give away too much about what’s to come, so we’ve made a list of five things we’d like to see:

1. A virtual world: Fans should be able to create characters that can live within a 3D Harry Potter virtual world.

2. Social networking features: Fans should be able to make profiles on Pottermore and share their favorite story moments with friends. They should also be able to share elements of their favorite interactive features on their Facebook and Twitter pages.

3. The new interactive elements incorporated into the eBooks. Reports about maps and character bios sound pretty cool, we’d love to see some of this new content come to life in the pages of the new eBook editions.

4. Special events. The site sounds like a great place for fans around the world to form virtual book clubs, attend virtual parties and get visits from the Harry Potter movie stars in character.

5. Fan fiction: In the above video, Rowling herself hints at fans being able to participate in the stories. It would be cool to let fans write their own fiction inspired by Harry Potter and share it among the community.
