Google is Killing its Older Search Engines
Google has shut down a number of its legacy search engines this past week, and they’re not coming back.
Back in its early years Google launched a number of specialized search engines. They were designed to help users find content faster by searching just a small part of the web. For example, google.com/unclesam only returned results from US government websites.
Times have changed, and Google no longer believes those specialized search engines are worth maintaining. A total of 6 different pages have been killed because Google believes that you can get just as good of a result by working through Google.com.
Well, not everyone agrees. A number of users have commented on one of Google’s support forums have complained that the results are not the same. They don’t think it’s possible to get the same results on Google that they found on google.com/unclesam; that search would also find content on state, federal, and university websites.
