Google, Skype, Hulu To Launch Windows 8 Apps

Google, Skype and Hulu Plus are among apps that will soon be available for Microsoft’s Windows 8 when the platform launches later this week.

Microsoft is offering Skype as a stand-alone app, as well as integrating it into the Microsoft Office Suite. ReadWriteWeb explains: “Skype will also be tied into Office, and 365 subscribers will receive 60 free Skype minutes to place outgoing calls. Skype users will be able to see presence and easily connect with each other from within Office applications.”

While Google will be available to Windows 8 users in the browser, Google is also releasing a search app that will handle text, voice and image searches natively.

The new Hulu Plus app has been optimized for the Windows 8 experience. It includes a tile-based common viewer and the ability for users to save their favorite shows and see when new episodes become available. The app also has a feature called “Snap View,” that lets users┬ámultitask and watch Hulu Plus in a small screen while using another app in the larger screen.
