Google has turned 15 today and to celebrate the company has reformulated its search engine. The updated version is called Hummingbird and it is designed to deliver better search results for questions.
The company revealed the update at a party in Menlo Park on Thursday afternoon. BBC UK was there:
Google stressed that a new algorithm is important as users expect more natural and conversational interactions with a search engine – for example, using their voice to speak requests into mobile phones, smart watches and other wearable technology. Hummingbird is focused more on ranking information based on a more intelligent understanding of search requests, unlike its predecessor, Caffeine, which was targeted at better indexing of websites.
Google has also marked the occasion by creating a Google Doodle of the Google logo which turns into a video game piñata. You can hit it to knock candy out and earn points. Follow this link to work on your high score.
