Google has updated its Google Currents app, a tool for Android devices that lets users read news from around the web.
The update includes a new user interface for scanning through categories, digital magazines and breaking news. Users can now browse digital magazines or “editions” by interests through categories such as entertainment, sports, and lifestyle, which can be organized by the user and will be grouped into a sidebar.
The design incorporates search technology into the news feed so that current events and breaking news rise to the top of the feed. Here is more from Google’s blog: “Google Currents now uses some of the technology behind Search to deliver the hottest breaking stories in categories such as World, Entertainment, Sports, Science and more. You’ll find new articles from hot topics that interest you, while discovering existing Currents editions you can subscribe to. Breaking stories are customized to your country and language—so we’ll only show you relevant news.”
