Google Wallet Upgrade Adds Multiple Credit Cards

Google is trying to make it even easier to use your phone or tablet as a payment device. On Wednesday, the company announced a new cloud-based version of the Google Wallet app, adding support for credit and debit cards including, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.

Google said that as part of the upgrade, it has begun storing credit card information on its servers, rather than on a secure place on your phone. To keep  your information secure, the platform requires a PIN.

Google explains how to use the app on its blog: “To save a card to Google Wallet, just enter the number into the mobile app, online wallet, or Google Play when making purchases. When you shop in-store, you can use Google Wallet in conjunction with your selected credit or debit card for purchases (more info here). Shortly after making a payment, you’ll see a transaction record on the phone with the merchant name and dollar amount. You can now view a history of all your in-store and online purchases from the online wallet.”

The app is available on a handful of Sprint and Virgin Mobile phones, as well as on the Nexus 7.
