Harry Potter to Finally Go Digital?

The Scotsman is reporting that J.K.Rowling, author of the fabulously successful Harry Potter series, has finally started thinking about releasing all 7 titles as eBooks.

Ms Rowling’s agent has confirmed that the author, who had ruled out making the books available electronically for years, was now actively considering plans for e-book versions.

Ms. Rowling had refused to allow eBooks since, well, ever, which resulted in herĀ  books being some of the fastest pirated titles of all time. In fact, the turnaround time for the last couple titles in the series were under a day. Yes, less than 24 hours after the print edition hit the shelves a passable (but not great) eBook edition was being passed around the internet. She threw a lot of money away each time she refused to release an eBook edition.

If the eBooks are actually released, this is going to provide a rather interesting test of whether pirates will covert to customers long after having read the eBook. I suspect that only the die-hard fans will buy the eBooks; the casual reader won’t be interested.
