How DMCA Takedown Notices Work (Infographic)

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act is one of the key concepts supporting the internet today. This law grants a safe harbor to sites like Youtube, forums, so they won’t be immediately liable for the misdeeds of their users – so long as they meet certain legal conditions like properly responding to complaints about infringing content.

But have you ever wondered how the process works? As a blogger, I’ve had to send DMCA notices once or twice, so it’s no mystery to me. But if you’ve never seen it from the inside then this infographic should be interesting.

This infographic doesn’t quite match with my experiences, but it is formally correct.
