‘Hulu for Magazines’ Now Available on Android
Next Issue Media has just opened its Android newsstand. Samsung Galaxy Tab owners can now choose from 7 magazine titles including: Esquire, Popular Mechanics, Fitness, Parents, The New Yorker, Fortune, and Time.
The digital magazines are currently only available to Galaxy Tab owners who have a 3G model with a Verizon contract, and that’s because all the titles are only available thought an app sold on Verizon’s Vcast app store. The prices are set by publishers, and they will also soon have the option offer existing print subscribers free digital editions.
NIM was founded by a consortium of 5 publishers, and 4 (Hearst, Meredith, Conde Nast, Time Warner) have at least 1 title available in the newsstand. NewsCorp is the fifth member, and it decided to go its own way with The Daily. It also doesn’t have any print magazines.
