There’s still little proof that the iPad Mini has anything more than a faux existence, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping the rumor mill. Fortune is reporting that invites are going to be sent to the press on October 10th for an event which will unveil the iPad Mini.

This is a rumor we have no reason to believe except it comes from a major Apple (AAPL) investor who says he’s heard it from “multiple sources.”

What our source adds is the specificity of a date: The press, he says, can expect invitations to go out on Oct. 10

If Apple follows their usual process, the event will happen one week later and the iPad Mini will ship in early November.  But is it real?

I don’t know, but at this point I would be amazed to find out that all the many rumors were false. There have been dozens of rumors, a double handful of leaks, and endless speculation about the iPad Mini. If all this were really generated by a device that never existed then it would join the late 1990s tech bubble and Dutch tulip craze as one of the great mass delusions of all time.
