Japanese Vending Machine Dispenses eBooks

Japan really does seem to have a vending machine for everything. Toys, umbrellas, flowers and neckties can all be purchased in vending machines in Japan. And now you may even be able to buy eBooks in a vending machine one day.

Glory, a company that makes vending machines and ATMs, reportedly debuted an eBook distributing vending machine prototype at the Tokyo Book Fair.

Ubergizmo explains: “You might be asking, ‘How do you dispense ebooks since they’re not physical?’ Well in this case, all the user would have to do is insert money into the machine, and the machine will then proceed to dispense a receipt with a QR code on it along with other information. The user can then scan the QR code with their ebook reader or smartphone, and proceed to redeem it.”
