NBC has released a new eBook as a companion to its television show Grimm, a drama based on Grimm’s Fairy Tales. NBC released the enhanced eBook today, in advance of the new fall season of the TV show.

Grimm: The Essential Guide is a free enhanced eBook includes background profiles of each character, behind-the-scenes footage of the actors getting their make up done, a multi-generational journal from the Grimm family, and videos. The videos include a recap of last season, a preview for the coming season, and the pilot for the show is available as a free download. The eBook requires an iPad with iBooks 2.

Mashable has more about NBC’s strategy: “NBC Publishing hopes that the ebook won’t just provide a supplement to the show, but will create an ‘entirely new ‘second-screen’ experience.’ The company hopes to pave the way for television interactivity, and ‘bridge the gap between fan and screen.’”
