New York Leads Google eBookstore Adoption
New York, Seattle, Chicago, LA and DC have been the top cities to embrace Google’s eBookstore. According to Abe Murray, product manager at Google Books, who shared some statistics on how the Google eBookstore has been doing since launch at Digital Book World this morning, Houston, San Francisco, Denver, Atlanta and Minneapolis also made the Top 10 list for Google eBookstore adoption since launch.
Google’s top selling eBooks are not a surprise. The current bestseller is Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, followed by George Bush’s Decision Points at No. 2, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest at No. 3 and John Grisham‘s The Confession at No. 4.
Interestingly, the top category in the eBookstore is romance, despite the fact that no romance titles made the Top 10 bestsellers list. Biography, thrillers, finance and YA titles are also popular in the Google eBookstore.
When it comes to devices, people are reading their Google books on more than 85 different eReaders. Murray said that while most pages are read in apps, most books are read on the web. “If you allow people to read anywhere, people will read just about anywhere,” he said.
