Project Gutenberg Wants To Offer One Billion Free eBooks

Like free eBooks? Then you will like this news. Project Gutenberg is on a mission to expand its digital library to one billion free eBooks.
This is a lot more ambitious than Google, who when scanning for its Google Books program recently said that there are currently 129,864,880 books in the world. The online giant reached came up with this strangely specific number through metadata.
But Michael Hart, the founder of the non-profit site Project Gutenberg, has a bigger guess and that is just for public domain titles. He told The LA Times that there are currently 25 million public domain books out there and if the site is able to scan all of these and translate them into 100 languages each, then the will reach that one billion eBook goal. When is another question and remains Hart’s unknown.
