Random House Debuts Deluxe eBooks for Book Clubs

Random House will be releasing the first 2 titles in a new line of eBooks next month.

Reader’s Circle, the Random house imprint for book clubs, will be publishing “Deluxe Reading Group Editions”. These eBooks will contain an additional seventy or more pages of additional content, including author-approved annotations as well as bonus content added as an appendix. Both the annotations and the bonus content were carefully chosen to inspire discussion among the members of a book group.

The first 2 eBooks will be released on 12 December, and they are up for pre-order now in most eBookstores, including B&N and Amazon. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows and Lisa See’s Snow Flower and the Secret Fan are listed for $13.  Later titles will be released in 2012, including Juliet by Anne Fortier, Next To Love by Ellen Feldman, The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant, The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff, The Paris Wife by Paula McLain.

While these eBooks are a tad expensive, the extras can be worth it, particularly if the book is by your favorite author. I have a couple expanded editions of eBooks by Vernor Vinge, and the footnotes add much to the story.
