While Sony was one of the first companies to get into the eBook business, they were not one of the eBook companies to jump on the app bandwagon when the iPad launched. That is until now.
Just in time for the release of the iPad Mini, the iPad 4 and a relatively new iPhone 5, the Sony Reader Store has launched its Reader app for iOS. Like other eReading apps, the bookstore app lets readers access their Sony reading library on Apple devices. And like Amazon and Barnes & Noble’s apps, among others, the Sony app lets readers customize features like formatting, text, brightness, and orientation. And similar to competitors, the Sony app does not allow in-app purchases because of the large percentage that Apple takes from such sales.
For a limited time Sony is giving away a short story from fantasy author Kim Harrison to those readers that download the app. The story, Trouble on Reserve” is exclusive to the app and will automatically download to the reader’s library when they download the app.
