Apple’s iTunes Connect officially began its holiday break on Saturday, Dec. 21, and it will be closed through Friday. Apple warned developers of the shutdown earlier this month.
The iTunes Connect portal lets companies manage their apps from submitting a new one to making updates. That means no new iOS apps or updates until after Dec. 27.

Apple is offering a free, eight-song holiday playlist through its Apple Store app. The “Holiday Cheer” free playlist offer expires just before the new year on Dec. 31, though Apple warns it is “subject to availability.”
If you haven’t already downloaded the Apple Store app, do that first. Then scroll down the list until you see “Holiday” with a red icon. After you choose to download it, Apple sends you a redemption code to get the eight songs for free. Then click on the redemption code and your downloads should start. Popular mobile magazine Flipboard added a new “shopping” section to its apps Monday, including digital catalogs curated by retailers such as Banana Republic and eBay.
The shopping section includes 12 Flipboard curated catalogs with a range of products from pet items to kids’ toys to women’s clothing under cheeky names, such as “Pets Gazette” and “Minimalist Electronics.” A handful of celebrity curated catalogs, including one from designer Cynthia Rowley, and a batch of catalogs from seven retail partners–Banana, eBay, Fab, ModCloth, Birchbox, Etsy and Levi’s–round out the new section. The latter two had existing e-commerce partnerships with Flipboard. Read more
Fiksu created an infographic called, “Successful Strategies for Holiday Mobile App Marketing,” which explores how popular app downloading is over the holidays.
According to the infographic, 1.2 billion apps were downloaded between December 25-31, 2011. We’ve embedded the entire graphic after the jump.
