According to the map, which is updated daily, 56 percent of books purchased are considered “red,” while 44 percent of political books purchased are considered “blue.”

The top selling red books include: The Amateur by Edward Klein; Fool Me Twice: Obama’s Plans For the Next Four Years Exposed by Aaron Klein and Brenda Elliott; and Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever by Martin Dugard and Bill O’Reilly. The top selling blue books include: A People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn; The New New Deal by Michael Grunwald; and The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander and Cornell West.

Amazon explains the map with this blurb: “Election day is November 6, 2012. We hope this map will provide you with a novel way to follow the political conversation this election season. Just remember, books aren’t votes, so a map of book purchases may reflect curiosity as much as commitment.”
