Twitter Introduces Vine, Looped Video Sharing Service

Twitter has a new video sharing service called Vine. Vine claims to be “the best way to see and share life in motion.” Like Viddy and SocialCam, the Vine app lets you post and share short video clips online. The unique aspect of Vine is that you edit as you are creating the video and the videos are looped.

Vine explained the idea in a blog post: “Posts on Vine are about abbreviation — the shortened form of something larger. They’re little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life. They’re quirky, and we think that’s part of what makes them so special.”

Twitter CEO Dick Costello announced the new tool this week on Twitter, where he shared a video called “Steak tartare in six seconds,” which shows a quickly edited looped video of how to prepare the dish.

James Buckhouse, managing editor at Twitter, posted this very sweet video of two little kids riding a train together on the Twitter blog to show off the new service.
