Jim Morrison is moving from the posters on dorm room walls to the iPad with the release of a new app conceived of by the 81 year-old Elektra Records founder Jac Holzman. The Doors official app, a release from the Warner Music Group’s Rhino Entertainment built by Brandwidth U.K., tells the story of the iconic sixties band through video, music and images. This includes videos of icons like Patti Smith, Hunter S. Thompson, Greil Marcus and Francis Coppola talking about the band, as well as six videos of the band themselves.
There is also a music room, where users can listen to samples of Doors songs. While you can’t hear the whole song, if you do own it in your iTunes, you can sync the app with your library to play full length versions within the app. You can also read the lyrics to the band’s songs in the app.
