Bieber Posts Most Popular Instagram of 2013

Justin Bieber posted the most popular Instagram image of the year, according to the photo-sharing site’s CEO.

The performer’s popular picture featured him and Will Smith with the caption: “Me and Uncle Will. It was posted in August and had more than 1.5 million likes by this afternoon. Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom revealed the news on the Today show Friday.

Systrom also listed out the most popular hashtags of the year, which included #love in the No. 1 slot followed closely by #food and #tbt (or throw-back Thursday). Read more

HarperCollins Launches Bookperk Social Reading Site

HarperCollins Publishers has launched a new social shopping website called Bookperk that gives “insider access to the world of books.” Like Groupon, Bookperk users can get special group discounts on products, as well as gain access to special events.

Recent offers have included the chance to win a signed copy of Justin Bieber‘s First Step 2 Forever; a signed copy of the New York Times bestseller, If You Have to Cry, Go Outside by Kelly Cutrone; and a special Melissa Marr bundle for her upcoming book, Darkest Mercy.

Claire Goldwitz, Product Manager of Bookperk stated: “Authors are going beyond the written word and connecting with their audiences by hosting cocktail parties and skype chats, calling into book clubs and hosting workout sessions.”

HarperCollins Titles Absent From OverDrive’s Top Adult Fiction Downloads

Despite all of the controversy surrounding HarperCollins and eBooks at libraries, the publisher failed to make OverDrive’s ten most downloaded books from the library list in adult fiction for February 2011.

Knopf Doubleday’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson was most popular adult fiction title, followed by Knopf Doubleday’s The Confession by John Grisham and The Help by Kathryn Stockett from Penguin USA.

While the Crown Publishing Group dominated the most downloaded adult nonfiction lists with three eBooks in the top 4, HarperCollins only had one title on the list, Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern, which was No. 5.

In fact, HarperCollins books only made three of OverDrive’s various lists, with one title on the most popular adult nonfiction list, one title on the juvenile fiction list and one title on the most popular juvenile nonfiction list. HarperCollins’ I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore was the most popular juvenile fiction title and Justin Bieber by Justin Bieber was No. 4 on the most popular juvenile nonfiction download list.
