Amazon Adds In-App Purchasing To Web Based Games

Amazon has just added a new feature that lets developers add in-app purchasing to let customers use their Amazon accounts to buy virtual goods from within Mac, PC and Web-based games.

“Game developers build games that are used across multiple platforms and mediums,” explained Mike Frazzini, director at Amazon Games, in a statement. ”In-App Purchasing for Mac, PC and Web-based games is our latest service that helps game developers grow their business and increase their customer-base.”

App developers can add in-app purchases to their games and players can use any credit card, gift certificate or promotional credit associated with their Amazon account to buy these items. Here is more from Amazon’s press release: “To help developers with game discovery and marketing, in-app items will automatically be available on Amazon.com, and in-app purchases can show up on best seller lists, recommendations and merchandising campaigns, helping customers discover new games and items, while adding another point of engagement for existing players.” Developers can follow this link to find out more.

Amazon Wants Developers To Make Money Through In-App Purchases

Amazon has added Unity plugins to its GameCircle APIs in a move that makes it easier for developers to add in-app purchasing to video game apps.

“Unity is one of the most popular tools for building mobile games,” explained Mike Frazzini, director of Amazon Games, in a statement. “Amazon’s In-App Purchasing and GameCircle APIs help developers reach more customers, keep them engaged, and make more money. Every week millions of customers are playing GameCircle enabled games and are able to compare scores and compete against friends. We want to make it as easy as possible for developers to quickly integrate these features and our new, free plugins make it incredibly simple to do so for anyone using Unity.”

Amazon launched an in-app purchasing API earlier this year, which lets developers sell digital content and subscriptions within apps and games. According to Amazon, transactions from these apps are twice as profitable than other app transactions. Follow this link to find out more about how to use Amazon’s API.
