Oprah Winfrey Names Her Favorite iPad Apps

Talk show host and book club tastemaker Oprah Winfrey named her favorite iPad apps at the American Magazine Conference this week in Chicago.

Ad Age has more details. We’ve inserted links to her favorite apps: “she praised the device for helping her stay up on more breaking news, for which she favors the CNN app and the ABC News app (she loves the globe design). And she’s a big fan of Brushes and Sketchbook for her creative outlook. But the one that she said “changed her workouts”? Scrabble. “It keeps my mind off the treadmill … I can play Scrabble and listen to Bruce Springsteen all at once,” she effused.

Could Oprah’s App Club be far behind? We hope so…

Oprah iPad App To Include eBooks

logo_oprah_beta.pngOprah Winfrey is taking her book club to the iPad with a new eReader app and eBookstore. The eReading tool will be part of the O Magazine iPad app, which is expected to hit the market in the fourth quarter.

Nat Ives at AdAge has the story, “Capitalizing on Oprah Winfrey’s huge role recommending books to her fans, the iPad edition of O, The Oprah Magazine, that’s expected in the fourth quarter will let users buy e-books and read them within the app itself.”

The app will include interactive features. The AdAge story continues, “The will app preserve the basic magazine experience but include visual tags that let users know they can see a video message from Ms. Winfrey or interact in some other way. A module on articles will let users make comments and see other readers’ remarks.”

This is a great opportunities for publishers to collaborate eBook releases with Oprah’s Book Club titles, as they often do in print.
