Remember that hoax erotica book we wrote about last week, The Diamond Club?  The ”crowd-sourced erotic stunt novel” from Brian Brushwood and Justin Young (hosts of the NSFW podcast), debuted on iTunes’ top grossing book list last week at No. 4 and is currently holding its place at No. 5. How did the authors do it?

Brushwood and Young used Vook’s latest eBook publishing platform to put out the title. The platform, which launched in March, got a new set of features last week including the ability to build a Web page for an eBook, and the ability to sell the eBook directly from that page (keeping 85 percent of the net royalties).

The update also includes a preview capability that will let readers preview an eBook using an HTML5 browser.

Comedians from The NSFW Show completely crowd-sourced a fake erotica book for the iBookstore. They compiled a collection of submissions from readers as The Diamond Club by Patricia Harkins-Bradley–telling readers to “please purchase and post a hilarious 5-star review” for the 99-cent title.

The video embedded above explains everything–what do you think? The fake book currently has 1,124 five star reviews and 12 one-star reviews. As you can see by the screen shot from iTunes, as of this writing, the book is currently ranked No. 4 out of all books in the iBookstore–topped only by the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy.
