Discounting can affect your royalties. All percentages quoted below are of the actual price at which your book is sold, not the recommended retail price. Sometimes distributors will choose to discount your book; if this occurs your royalty may be calculated according to the discounted rate. Please note also that this chart is applicable only to authors and publishers dealing directly with the distributors—approved aggregators, such as Vook, can secure higher royalty rates in some instances.

The creators of popular how-to apps for iOS devices have released their first eBook guide called Master Your DSLR Camera: A Better Way to Learn Digital Photography. Like the app, the eBook release includes video tutorials, slideshows and guided tours. It is available through the major eBook retailers.

The company worked with digital publishing company Vook to format the app into an eBook and make it easy to read across all devices. The eBook costs $11.99, while the iOS app version is currently on sale for $4.99 (it’s usually $9.99).

Interactive digital publisher Vook is now available through the Kindle store. The publisher, who just celebrated its one-year anniversary released Anne Rice’s The Master of Rampling Gate through the Kindle app last week.

The publisher has many titles available through Apple’s App Store, but this is the publisher’s first title available through Kindle.

The Vook blog has more: “Each new distribution channel enables us to share more great stories with more people – and we are continually working to expand on to new platforms so that soon everyone will be able to share in this exciting (r)evolution of the written word.”

Vook has launched a new digital serial rights program, a new digital marketing offering that gives authors and publishers a way to get in touch with new audiences through enhanced digital content.

The first release from this new program is called Bernhard Schlink on The Weekend, and it features a special vignette in which the New York Times best-selling author talks about writing, along with four chapters from his new novel The Weekend. It also includes a short story called “A Little Fling,” from his collection Flights of Love.

The Vook integrates four video interviews with Schlink and features documentary vignettes and archival images from The Weekend. The entire package is free in the app store, giving readers the chance to sample Schlink’s work.

The enhanced eBook title is called Habit 2: Discovering Your Life Mission by Stephen Covey. The eBook is a self-help title focused on a step-by-step system aimed at solving both personal and professional problems. The Vook edition includes 10 video interviews with Covey. It is available in the App Store for the iPad and iPhone for $7.99.

Aside from self-help titles, Vook has also released fiction, thrillers and music related titles.
