Reports are coming in that Rupert Murdoch‘s The Daily will continue its free trial for the near future. A specific end date has not been named, but it is known that Verizon will continue as the sponsor. Reports elsewhere have put the date as March 9th, but this has not been confirmed.

The extension is reportedly due to continuing technical problems. paidContent.org has an interview with publisher Greg Clayman: “We want to continue buffing it. I think everyone should. The best part of the interaction with our readers is going back and forth, getting a lot of feedback. We want to keep making it better.”

In fact, the ongoing technical problems are why The Daily didn’t launch on the original date of January 19th.
