Thunderspace App Uses Three Dimensional Soundscape to Bring Virtual Storms to Your Ears

One very unusual complaint from non-natives in the Bay Area is the lack of thunderstorms. Evidently, there’s a market for thunder lovers, and now there’s also an app tapping that market – Thunderspace App.

The app is designed for an immersive 3D sound experience with seamlessly looped sounds and flashes of lightning:

We used special stereo microphones with ears to record the sound the way humans hear: With interaural time and level differences. With headphones on, the sound recorded by the left microphone enters your left ear, and the sound recorded by the right microphone enters your right ear. Your brain decodes the stereoscopic 3D audio cues as if you were there when the recording took place.

Together with realistic lightning flashes, Thunderspace creates the illusion of a virtual thunderstorm around you.

The free app comes with two tracks with options to purchase more.
