Travel Channel Revamps ‘Layover’ App Into a Cities Guide

CitiesAppThe proliferation of travel apps can make it hard to know which one to turn to for an upcoming trip. There are flight trackers, discount aggregators, foodie apps, interactive maps and on and on.

The Travel Channel’s redesigned “Cities” app offers travelers a solid, broad overview of 24 cities combined with great visuals. It’s perfect for a first-time visit to a city or a short stay where you just need to know say, the top 10 things to do in Paris or the best hotel in Toronto. You’re not going to find “off the beaten path” travel advice, but the app is pretty, fast, easy to use — and it’s free. Users can search for eateries, hotels and points of interest, and then build their daily itinerary within the app.

The Travel Channel recently added four new cities to the app: Austin, Boston, Las Vegas and Washington, D.C. It also renamed it from the Travel Channel “Layover Guide” app to “Cities,” while adding new content and functionality.

Cities works on the iPhone and Touch, but looks best on the iPad.
