Which Apps Are Sharing Your Information with Ad Companies?
The Wall Street Journal surprised smartphone and tablet users with an expose on how some apps share your data with outside sources. The article revealed that popular apps like Pandora and Paper Toss shared some of your data with ad networks or ad companies.
Here’s more from the article: “The makers of TextPlus 4, Pandora and Grindr say the data they pass on to outside firms isn’t linked to an individual’s name. Personal details such as age and gender are volunteered by users, they say. The maker of Pumpkin Maker says he didn’t know Apple required apps to seek user approval before transmitting location.”
In the video embedded above, Julia Angwin and Simon Constable discuss “how smartphone apps collect and broadcast data about your habits.”
