Background: Launched in 1923, New Mexico Magazine is the nation's first state magazine. It has an established reputation as the authority on authentic travel in New Mexico.

The magazine features both the down-home and upscale experiences in New Mexico, as well as coverage of the Old West and the New Age, says associate editor Ashley M. Biggers. Editors publish articles about "New Mexico experiences, with opinionated storytelling from a first-person point of view when appropriate," she says. They run stories that inspire readers to "follow in the writer's footsteps."
