One internationally published novelist shows how her travels lend perspective and depth to her work
December 14, 2009
Paris is novelist Kristin Harmel's favorite place to write. Living within view of the Eiffel Tower several years ago and traveling abroad annually has inspired her books The Art of French Kissing (5 Spot, 2008) and Italian for Beginners (5 Spot, 2009) and allowed her to become an expert guest for Good Morning America, Fox, & Friends, and the Daily Buzz. With a flair for creative book tours, the author recently partnered with T-shirt designer Amy Tangerine and musician Jerry Cherry, who plays guitar as a soloist and with Chubby Checker. At 30, Harmel is ghostwriting the musical legend's autobiography, publishing the teen book After (Delacorte Press/Random House) in February, and completing her 10th year of writing for People, where she specializes in "hero" stories. Drawing on her interviewing and magazine-writing experiences to feed her novel writing, Harmel's ear for dialogue and perspective-altering travels bring her characters to life -- in enlightening books that engage readers across cultures.... ![]() The How to Pitch series is worth its weight in gold. In just the first month I'd already benefited enough to consider the cost of joining well worth it. -- Gaen MurphreeAvantGuild benefits give you access to:
