A few weeks ago, the brain trust at Tribune Co. told
Wall Street analysts that the reporters at the Los Angeles Times
needed to become more like the reporters at the Hartford Courant
, who produced six times as many pages of copy in a year. (The quality of that copy wasn't part of the discussion.) Well, those reporters in Hartford can relax a little bit (but not too much), as the paper is slashing its news hole by 25 percent, although that's been matched by slashing the newsroom producing them by almost 25 percent as well -- a total loss ...
