Background: Since launching in 1973, Canoe & Kayak has always been an enthusiast publication for knowledgeable canoers and kayakers interested in learning more about their sports. These days, the magazine caters to a slightly younger demographic (18-45) than in past years, and one that's more adventure-oriented. "We feature more whitewater kayaking and canoeing, and have a greater expedition bend in our coverage," said editor Jeff Moag. Canoe & Kayak's also more aspirational than it used to be: "Don't send us the same queries you send the Sunday Travel section. You've got to have an angle, and it's got to pertain to canoeing and kayaking."
