Just a few years ago, media professionals were paid to be reporters or software developers. They were editors or content management experts, online community managers or researchers. Sure, maybe they tricked out a few databases while reporting investigative features, or boned up on metadata strategies as an online editor, but the boundaries were drawn more crisply, at least in name.
These days, the blurring of roles and responsibilities has given way to a new class of editorial-related practices, in which workers bring to bear their seemingly disparate editorial and technical skills to help advance the digital media landscape.
