Biz Stone Joins HuffPo; Facebook Poaches Google

Arianna Huffington continues her talent acquisition, bringing 11 new faces into her tangled web. The biggest get is former New York Times editor John Montorio, who joins as culture and entertainment editor. Techcrunch calls the hire "a dramatic shift in favor of real journalism within AOL." Is the AOL Way giving way to the right way? Huffington and Tim Armstrong also hand some stock to Twitter founder Biz Stone in exchange for his services. AOL seemingly parts ways with all its freelancers and watches as Engadget editors Josh Topolsky and Nilay Patel walk away, citing a desire to move on from the place they've called home for too long...

Al Qaeda launches a female companion for Inspire. Al-Shamikha is aimed at the wives of Islamist martyrs and has already earned the nickname "Jihad Cosmo" from the Daily Mail... Maura Johnston lands at the Village Voice as music editor, replacing Rob Harvilla who decamps for Rhapsody in San Francisco. Johnston was the founding editor of Idolator and also recently helped out at The Awl... Hearst recruits David Kang as creative director, content extensions. He had been senior vice president, general manager at Rodale...

Katie Couric could be moving to ABC. Her contract with CBS expires in June, and there's talk she'll rejoin Jeff Zucker on a show. The network doesn't have any "natural openings" at the current moment, but you get the feeling that could be altered for such a big name. Ricki Lake could return to television in 2012. Twentieth, NBC and CBS are all reportedly interested in her daytime show, but the Couric discussions among other factors are slowing progress... CNN Worldwide taps Janet Rolle as executive vice president and chief marketing officer. She had been in the same position at BET Networks... Evan Bayh joins Fox News as a commentator and political analyst...

Facebook steals Amir Zoufonoun from Google. He was the company's No. 2 M&A person and will help Mark Zuckerberg expand his empire through purchases... Nikki Finke poaches from one of her favorite targets, snagging Hollywood Reporter's Patrick Hipes as managing editor of Deadline.com. He's been with THR since 2004... Bill O'Reilly lands a book deal worth seven figures... Digg recruits Ben Folk-Williams to replace John Quinn... The head of Flickr leaves... Julia Allison hires the PR agency run by Susan Blond... And there are changes at Prometheus Global Media, TheBump.com and more...
