Background: Before founding The Bent Agency in 2009, Jenny Bent was a vice president at literary powerhouse Trident Media Group. After 15 years in the industry, she envisioned her new agency as a place where she would continue to build and nurture bestselling fiction and nonfiction authors with the more in-depth individual attention that only a small shop could offer by developing careers, particularly in areas of foreign, film and audio rights.
"I've spent 18 years working for other people, and I wanted to have my own name on the door at last," says Bent, who began her career working in the books and fiction department of Ladies' Home Journal while still in college. "It's been very exciting doing my own thing, and I'm thrilled that I've been able to add a children's book agent and a foreign rights associate. My agency has thrived because of the amazing talents of my clients; I am lucky to represent them all."
