It didn't take long for CBS to find a replacement for Rick Kaplan on the CBS Evening News. Patricia Shevlin will serve as executive producer when Scott Pelley takes over the broadcast. She has been the executive producer of the news program's Weekend Editions since January 2000. Kaplan, to his credit, did not waste any time finding a new gig either. Katie Couric's EP takes the same role at This Week with Christiane Amanpour. It's a homecoming of sorts since he spent 18 years at ABC manning multiple high-level positions. The show he joins has been without an EP since Ian Cameron departed last fall...
Our long national nightmare is over. (Or is it just beginning?) Ashton Kutcher will replace Charlie Sheen
on Two and a Half Men
. The former That '70s Show
star was the second choice after negotiations with Hugh Grant
fell apart, but producer Chuck Lorre
is "really happy" with the decision. He will be earning less than the $2.5 million per episode that Sheen made and Kutcher announced the news -- how else? -- via tweet
The New York Times plans to relaunch the "Week in Review" next month with a bigger focus on columnists. NYT Magazine refugee Virginia Heffernan and Mark Bittman will have larger roles in the revamped Sunday section, and star op-ed writers Nicholas Kristof, Maureen Dowd, and Thomas Friedman will occasionally be given more space... Matt Drudge hires former New York Post Washington bureau chief Charlie Hurt to help on his influential site. He joins Joseph Curl who started last year. Both Hurt and Curl pen columns in The Washington Times...
After 36 years, Jim Lehrer decides to say goodbye. He's not leaving PBS Newshour completely -- he'll still moderate the Friday panel of journalists -- but he's giving up the day-to-day duties. Lehrer started on the program in 1975 when it was called The Robert MacNeil Report. The veteran can claim 52 years in the business and his daily contributions will be sorely missed... Tina Brown loses her managing editor after just five months... Meredith Attwell Baker lands a new job with Comcast. You last saw her on the FCC when she was voting in favor of the company taking over NBC, but she defends taking the job... The Tennis Channel scores Mary Carillo as on-air talent for the French and US Open telecasts. Ace!...
NPR promotes Audie Cornish to host of the Weekend Edition Sunday. The former House and Senate reporter replaces Liane Hansen who retires after two decades in the anchor seat... Kendrick Meek joins Politic365 as chairman of its editorial board. He was a representative of Florida's 17th congressional district for eight years... Square hires Megan Quinn as its director of risk. She had previously been a product manager at Google... Joseph Kapsch becomes website editor of HollywoodReporter.com... And there are changes at Penguin Press, The Ant Farm and more...
