Couric Joins ABC News; HuffPo Poaches NYT

Katie Couric finally announces her multi-platform deal with ABC News. The former CBS Evening News anchor will focus on launching a syndicated talk show in the fall of 2012 while also reporting for the news team. According to someone who knows things, "Katie will participate fully in the work and life of ABC News. She'll anchor, she'll co-anchor, she'll host, she'll interview, she'll travel," and she will also book interviews. Meanwhile, Scott Pelley (Couric's replacement at CBS) prepped for his first show by watching CNBC. Then he took the stage in a "Cronkite-inspired" newsroom and delivered the news...

Tina Brown grabs another big name, snagging Paul Begala as columnist. He'll write about the 2012 election... Hearst Magazines International appoints three executives after last week's purchase of Lagardere's international publishing unit... Glamour is struggling on the newsstand, but editor Cindi Leive isn't concerned...

The New York Times loses architecture critic Nicolai Ouroussoff. He plans to write a book after spending the past seven years at the Gray Lady. Meanwhile, the Times loses another employee to The Huffington Post as Andrei Scheinkman departs to become editor of interactive news. "He and his group will be an especially important part of our 2012 election coverage as we look to make sense of the data that will impact how voters will perceive issues and candidates," Arianna Huffington said in a statement... Susie Ellwood is the new VP and general manager at USA Today...

Marv Albert joins CBS Sports to work the NFL. He will continue doing basketball play-by-play for TNT... Mark Jackson leaves the comfort of the ESPN broadcast booth to take a head coaching job with the Golden State Warriors... ABC's NewsOne recruits Karen Travers. She will cover the White House and Congress... Ali Velshi moves to 5 a.m. at CNN where he'll anchor a new show... NBC Universal taps Hilary Smith as senior VP of communications in the entertainment and digital networks and integrated media division.
