The Al Jazeera America hiring streak continues, as Joie Chen joins as anchor of America Tonight. She had most recently been a media consultant in Washington but has experience on the airwaves at CNN and CBS News. "I'm thrilled to create world-class journalism with some of the best in the business," she said in a statement announcing the news. Paul Eedle, AJA's deputy launch manager in charge of programs, is excited as well: "Joie is a strong journalist with a natural, warm presence on screen and we're excited to see her at the heart of our primetime schedule." Elsewhere, the network recruits Stony Brook University J-school associate dean Marcy McGinnis as SVP, newsgathering, and hires Boston Review web editor David Johnson to be opinion editor...

Tamron Hall lands a new show. The former MSNBC host and NBC News correspondent grabs the reigns of Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall on Discovery's ID network. Hall, whose older sister was murdered, will work with correspondents including Michelle Sigona, Angeline Hartmann and America's Most Wanted's Tom Morris Jr.... KTVU-TV fires investigative producer Roland DeWolk, special projects coordinator Cristina Gastelu and producer Brad Belstock after the fiasco involving fake pilot names in the Asiana airline crash... Huffington Post Live loses another host as Jacob Soboroff departs for "a gig in TV land." The fledgling video network launched by Roy Sekoff is clearly doing a good job of promoting its own, which is a blessing and a curse since people keep leaving... MTV makes a bunch of changes in its publicity department, handing promotions to Jason Rzepka and Noopur Agarwal, and hiring Jennifer Solari away from CBS Television Studios...

Maria Rodale seeks a president and chief operating officer for her family's company, a move that surprised many people who pay attention to these types of things. David Zinczenko need not apply... Veranda hires Clinton Smith as editor-in-chief. The current editorial director of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles moves to New York for the job, taking over for Dara Caponigro, who steps down to spend more time with her family... Mark Josephson, SVP of revenue and marketing at AOL's Patch, has resigned after two years with the company, reports BuzzFeed. AOL CEO Tim Armstrong has invested a lot in the hyper-local news site, but unhappy staffers have been filling up Jim Romenesko's inbox...

Col Allan, editor-in-chief of the New York Post, is being sent to Australia for a few months to provide "extra editorial leadership" for News Corp.'s Aussie papers. Jesse Angelo will take the helm of the Post in the meantime... Ray Rivera leaves The New York Times for a job as editor of The Santa Fe New Mexican. He replaces Rob Dean, who recently retired. The Santa Fe native, who once worked as a sports editor and general news reporter at the paper he's taking over, had been an investigative reporter with the Times... Politico snags Todd Purdum as senior writer. He will continue as a contributing editor at Vanity Fair... And there are changes at Talking Points Memo, CNBC and more...
