The days of Katie Couric hosting a syndicated talk show are almost over. ABC won't renew Katie after its second season, which ends production in June. “We’re very proud of everyone’s contributions to making Katie the No. 1 new syndicated talk show of 2012-2013, and we look forward to the rest of the season," the two parties said in a joint statement. Couric recently signed a massive deal with Yahoo, where she will be "global anchor" (which sounds like something out of Anchorman). There appears to be nothing to the scuttlebutt that Jeff Zucker tried to bring her to CNN... Martin Bashir's time slot at MSNBC will be taken over by Alex Wagner, who was most recently host of the network's political commentary show Now... Meanwhile, Robin Roberts re-signs with ABC News, inking a deal in the high seven figures. She'll stay as a co-anchor of Good Morning America. ABC News hires HLN anchor Ryan Smith as a New York-based correspondent and legal expert. And Mara Schiavocampo, who just tweeted her departure from NBC News, may follow suit in the new year...

The New York Times poaches John Koblin from Deadspin. He'll join the Styles section, taking over a job that Eric Wilson called his own for nine years. Koblin, formerly a media reporter at the New York Observer and WWD, had been covering the sports media beat -- specifically ESPN -- at the Gawker Media site for the past year. Matt Apuzzo, the Associated Press reporter who won a 2011 Pulitzer, jumps to the NYT Justice Department, law and policy beat. Elsewhere, the Times buys out about 20 people on the business side, including Jill Georgievski and John Geddes. Each position will be replaced as part of a plan to bring native advertising to the paper...

Kenneth Li moves to the new AllThingsD as managing editor. He'll work with Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher to start the new tech behemoth. The man who wrote the story that inspired the Fast and Furious franchise recently left Reuters... Bloomberg View hires Jonathan Bernstein on the national politics beat. The political scientist has written for outlets, including the Washington Post and The New Republic... Randy Minor trades New York for Elle, where he'll serve as design director... Puja Patel joins Spin as associate editor... FiveThirtyEight snags Mona Chalabi, Benjamin Morris, and Neil Paine...

Everyone seems to want Jay Leno (or at least that's what his PR team would like us all to think). Jimmy Fallon is taking over The Tonight Show in February, meaning the current host will be looking, and The Hollywood Reporter hears that Zucker would like to bring him onboard. (That man has talks with everyone.) Leno has offers or entreaties from almost 10 other outlets as well... Rhode Island School of Design president John Maeda leaves for venture firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. He'll be a design partner and also takes a role on eBay's Design Advisory Board. He had been at RISD since 2008... And there are changes at CBS This Morning, Cohn & Wolfe, and more...
