Shakeup at Time Inc., TechCrunch Loses Co-editor

Jess Cagle, managing editor at Entertainment Weekly, has a new gig as managing editor of People, the top spot at Time Inc.'s most profitable magazine. He'll remain at EW as editorial director, a new role at the title. "Jess's reputation for successful collaboration and strong leadership, coupled with his unmatched access and influence in the celebrity world will enormously benefit both PEOPLE and EW," wrote president of the style and entertainment group David Geithner and chief content officer Norm Pearlstine in a memo. Cagle replaces Larry Hackett, who says he'll "take a break and figure out where to go next." Also out is Mark Golin, who was group editor of the style and entertainment group. Hackett and Golin both spent over a decade at the company. More people are expected to be on their way out...

Eric Eldon leaves his position as co-editor of TechCrunch. "For me, though, it's time to try something pretty different. I've been in tech since everybody wrote it off as a dying industry town about to be fully outsourced," he wrote in a goodbye post... Alexia Tsotsis will remain the editor along with newly elevated co-editor Matthew Panzarino. Leena Rao scores a promotion from senior editor to managing editor... Gabriel Snyder is leaving the Wire -- formerly the Atlantic Wire -- for a, a VC-backed mobile startup founded by Jason Calacanis. Andrew Golis takes over Snyder's duties for now, taking a position of general manager and leading the hunt for an editor-in-chief. Snyder joined The Atlantic in 2011...

Hugo Lindgren, who left the helm of NYT Magazine at the end of last year, will be the acting editor of The Hollywood Reporter, announced Janice Min. "Don't worry. He knows his way around Hollywood," she assured staffers in a memo... Glamour hires a handful of employees on the business side, as new publisher Connie Anne Phillips poaches from her old home, InStyle. David Posegay, Nancy Cooper and Dawn Reese all come from the publication, with Deena Schacter joining from O, the Oprah Magazine... Alex Vadukul is the new U.S. editor for Port. He'll mostly be tasked with writing duties and will continue to contribute to The New York Times and T... Rebecca Wright is the new communications director at Vayner Media...

Boston Globe publisher Christopher Mayer is saying goodbye after three decades at the paper. He'll stay on as a senior adviser to John Henry and the new owner's team. Mayer took over the publishing spot in 2010 and oversaw the launch of a paywall... In a sign of the times, the Phoenix New Times will hire a freelance restaurant critic after staffer Laura Hahnefeld put in her notice... The Washington Post loses its reader representative, Doug Feaver, and no one is sure who will replace him. His deputy, Alison Coglianese, might take the gig... The New York Times poaches Michael Corkery from The Wall Street Journal. He joins the business desk and will cover the banking industry... Now would be a good time to apply for a job at The Associated Press, which hired a number of reporters and is looking for more than a dozen additional staffers...

LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones join the Saturday Night Live writing cast. They were discovered during the recent auditions for a black female cast member... MSNBC plans to have a rotating group host its noon hour, including Ari Melber and Joy Reid... ESPN makes a change to its World Cup team, parting ways with Martin Tyler. He had been the lead voice of its soccer coverage and called 18 of the 64 matches during the 2010 World Cup. Ian Darke will take over for the tournament in Brazil... Elsewhere in the soccer world, Fox Soccer recruits Kyle McCarthy as editor in charge of Major League Soccer, and Howler adds Alexander Abnos and Jonathan Elderfield as editor and photo editor, respectively...
