CNN Expands Its Political Team; Changes at The Daily Beast

Are you ready for some politics? Publications around the country are staffing up in anticipation of the 2014 and 2016 elections. Bloomberg Businessweek adds Tablet news and politics editor Allison Hoffman as associate editor and poaches Salon's Josh Eidelson as a reporter. CNN, meanwhile, announces plans to double its staff, led by Ed O'Keefe, vice president of CNNMoney and Politics. That should take the number of staffers to roughly 40. And then there's the promotion of CNN producer David Chalian, who has been named political director for the network. He replaces Mark Preston, who was promoted to executive editor of CNN Politics last month. "If you're a top talent in D.C., expect to get a call from CNN Politics," O'Keefe said. "What we really need to do now and plan to do in 2016 is hyper-focus on the audience we want to reach. We want the names and the reporting that [are] absolutely essential for the influence makers in Washington."...
