Newsweek, Bloomberg Staff Up; WWE Shutters Its Mag Division

August 19, 2014
Newsweek is going on a hiring streak with editor Jim Impoco recruiting four staffers for the Web and angling to pump up the head count from 25 a year ago to 50 by the end of September. The new focus is on the website, and traffic is up tenfold since last October, according to figures from comScore collected by Capital New York. "The ad sales people couldn't be happier with the reaction they're getting," Impoco told Joe Pompeo, which is certainly a start. We'll see if the rebooted brand can continue to improve on those figures or if it disappears once again...

Marijuana.com recruits NBC News senior editor Al Olson to be managing editor. "I’ve been a journalist for as long as I’ve been a marijuana advocate," he said in a pretty excellent quote. The MSNBC.com founding editor began his career at Mother Jones... Hearst hires former Condé Nast Media Group art director Alison DeBenedictis as creative director, group marketing, for its Men's Group. Katie Benner lands one of the best jobs in the business, a columnist role at Bloomberg View. The Information staff writer will cover innovation, tech and Silicon Valley for the growing brand. Additionally, John Fraher, Ron Mathieson, Andrew Barden, and Craig Stirling all score promotions at Bloomberg LP... Maria Carrillo joins the Houston Chronicle as senior editor for Sunday and enterprise. She had been managing editor at the Virginian-Pilot since 2005 and with the paper for more than a decade and a half...
